Meet Ms. Dee
Dee Lockett is Founder and President of The Marketing Dept. Unlimited and HER Web Design Agency. She has over 20 years of experience marketing and consulting with small business owners, community organizations, and charities.
Ms. Lockett attended Wayne State University with a major in Accounting. She has her Project Management certification from University of Adelaide and her Women’s Entrepreneurship certification from Cornell University. She has also completed a graduate level entrepreneurial program at Joseph Business School.
Dee has been a serial entrepreneur since she was 14 years old. Her passion for art and all things creative led her into the beauty industry where she owned two salons, was a OPI Nails pro trainer, and developed a proprietary, cream-based formula for dry and cracked cuticles. But it was after she penned her first of nine books, “Passionate Pedicures for Christian Couples: An Intimate Exchange of Love” that she shifted down the new and exciting path of book publishing. This would ultimately land her squarely in the marketing industry out of sheer necessity to develop strategies to get her author’s books in front of consumers.
But for Dee, service is at the heart of everything she does which led her to start sharing the marketing and sales knowledge she has acquired by volunteering as a subject matter expert (SME) in marketing and technology for SCORE SE Michigan chapter, a resource partner for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
Known as an engaging and powerful presenter. Ms. Dee Lockett has been called on to teach marketing workshops to help struggling business owners for the City of Detroit, Fifth Third Bank, Luminary NYC, Operation Hope, Great Lakes Women’s Council, Michigan Women Forward, and TechTown Detroit, just to name a few.
In addition, she was recently asked to mentor two of the American Express 100for100 (#AMEX100for100) award recipients. Since her mentorship with them began, her mentees have received features in Ebony Magazine, increased revenues by 40%, secured $25,000 in funding, and opened a new retail location.
However, because everything goes back to servant leadership community and advocacy, which are truly her first loves, she founded Reach Out and Rescue, Inc. an organization that assists community partners by providing charitable giving and volunteer support and advocacy for children, the aging, those suffering from mental illness, and incarcerated individuals. And it is through her leadership that the “Books Behind Bars” initiative was started in 2016.
She became a certified crisis responder through Crisis Response International and is long-time supporter of Charity Water, No Kid Hungry, and Alternatives for Girls charities.
I was put on the earth to construct and instruct. Building businesses that build people is what I’m called to do.
